GFWC Miami Springs Woman’s Club ‘Angels in Action’ Newsletter
November 18, 2016
Our next GFWC MSWC General Meeting will be held This Monday November 21st at 11am just prior to our
12:00 International Luncheon for Operation Smile / Cleft Lip. Hope to see you there!
In as few as 45 minutes a child can be saved from a lifetime of pain, shame and isolation. You can give them a chance to go to school, make friends and have a bright future. For as little as $240 we can provide a surgery for a child suffering from cleft lip or cleft palate. We will have a donation jar available.
How lovely it would be to give a child a new SMILE with Love from the Miami Springs Woman’s Club!
Meet Danila. More than 400 children and their families gathered at the Infantil Albert Sabin Hospital in Fortaleza, Brazil. Danila, a 5-year-old, had come with her mother to get the gap in her lip fixed. They had traveled for miles, for hours, through arid fields and down dirt roads from their little village of Senador Pompeu. Danila, the youngest of 10 brothers and sisters, had thrived in the love and support of her large family, but she didn’t have many friends because of the “funny thing” on her face. She was ridiculed and made to feel ugly and unwanted because of her facial deformity. It was heartbreaking for her parents.
Now after her successful surgery, Danila can’t stop smiling! She is a beautiful, loving child, who does well in school, takes care of her chores and giggles with her many friends just like any other little girl. Her mother has seen a remarkable change in her daughter’s personality as a result of her surgery. “I am very happy to see my daughter smiling all the time. She is doing so well. She has many friends, many new ones, that come to our house all the time to play with Danila.”
Royal Palm State Park Celebration was awesome yesterday November 17, 2016 held at Everglades National Park. What a wonderful celebration of Conservation as started by the GFWC south Florida Clubs!
Our Club was well represented with Leadership: Of our District by Lynda Randolph, Registration table by Carmen Tapp; and GFWC and Club District Tables by Elizabeth Fisher. We had a wonderful group from MSWC – Marion, Joy, Lynda, Pat, Marli, Judy (Bruce), Juanita (Tony), Lynda, Carmen, Elizabeth. We listened to wonderful speakers including GFWC President Mary Powell, many leaders of our park Services, enjoyed a picnic lunch, and walked the Anhinga Trail and the path out to the old Royal Palm Lodge. What a great day!!
